Hey Marylanders, a quick update from the field team!
Now that we’re in the full swing of the campaign, our field staff and volunteers are out in full force, taking every opportunity we can to talk to Marylanders about the upcoming referendum on marriage equality in the state.
Last week, I spent the Fourth of July in Howard County, at the parade in Columbia, with a huge group of Marylanders for Marriage Equality supporters and our friends and coalition partners from the Parents, Families, & Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) Howard County chapter. Over 30 supporters marched with us in the parade, handing out MD4ME stickers and talking with other supporters as we walked through town.
That same day, our campaign was at five other Fourth of July celebrations, in Annapolis, Baltimore, Bowie, Frederick, and Takoma Park. Our team collected pledge signatures, took photos for our Maryland Believes campaign, and talked to voters about the upcoming referendum. Check out our Facebook page to see photos from the day.
But we’re not just waiting for special occasions to engage with Marylanders. Every week, our field team hosts phonebanks in our offices, during which we call Maryland residents to talk to them about the upcoming referendum. Every weekend, we canvass — walking door-to-door to talk to our neighbors about the importance of defending dignity and equality at the ballot box in November.
We can always use more help, so if you’re interested in getting more involved in the campaign, sign up today. And if you have ideas about what the field team should be doing to prepare for November, let us know! Looking forward to hearing from you.
See you in the field,
John Michael Watkins
